Aug 30 2016 Day in the Life // Anchorage Family Photography
So if you remember – back when I launched my new branding for Evoke, we did a session give away – a Day in the Life family photography session to be exact! And the winners of my launch contest were SO much fun! We had a lovely summer morning to photograph their beautiful family routine at their Anchorage home.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this family a few times in the past – so it was awesome to get the opportunity to hang with them in their element and create some memories for them just doing their thing.
We started out with breakfast (obviously the start of most family days!) and then moved to getting dressed – and since it was such a beautiful morning, a little play in the yard, with their CHICKENS! They have chickens. I love it. So Alaskan!
The kids were definitely in their zone. They had a blast really putting on a show for me – which was adorable and provided some amazing photographic moments.
This is what I love about Day in the Life sessions – the opportunity to document the life of a family – in their own element – and create beautiful, meaningful photographs of the honest, and simple moments of life. Nothing fake – nothing posed. Just play. routine – and the magic of the smallest moments.

I LOVE the beautiful signature album we created from their images! I know the kids will enjoy looking through this for years – and hopefully the don’t fight too much over who gets it someday!

Aug 25 2016 Twins! // Anchorage, Alaska Newborn Photography
My adorable friend Sharon, from Elegante Light Photography was chatting with me months ago, at one of our Alaska Portrait Professional meetings about a favorite client of hers that was pregnant with twins! Sharon is an amazing wedding photographer, but asked if I would be willing to help her out with the newborn photography.
I was SO stoked! I don’t get to photograph many multiples, so the opportunity to do so is always exciting!
I hauled a car load of props to Sharon’s studio in downtown Anchorage, Ak – and I may have gone a little overboard – but I had so many ideas!
And she had cranked up the heat to inferno levels (ideal for sleepy babies! Less ideal for those of us used to normal Alaska temperatures) and we setup for the tiny little girls
Baby Charlotte and Baby Josephine were absolutely perfect. At only 4 days old they were so tiny, so sleepy and… well, perfect!
It always warms my heart to see how twins want to be near each other. They have such connection from being together from day one in the womb – it’s a beautiful thing.

Aug 23 2016 The Magic of Children’s Photography
This year my parents, after living for almost 40 years in Chugiak, Alaska – finally decided it was time to do the snow-bird thing. My mom retired in 2015 from the Anchorage School District, where she worked as a speech therapist for years, and rather than hang out in Alaska to enjoy our beautiful summers, they decided to find some farmland in the middle of Oregon and spend their summer getting settled in.
And when I discovered that their place is in the middle of the best Oregon wine country, OBVIOUSLY we needed to visit! And what kind of photographer would I be if I didn’t pack a few dresses for my littles with the express purpose of capturing the incredible golden sunsets that actually occur at bedtime (rather than midnight, like they do in Anchorage…)
What I loved about this was that we spent no time getting ready – I don’t even think I brushed the kids hair – we tossed their dresses on, ran out into the backyard and photographed for maybe 15 minutes.
They were relaxed – and I just let them be free to play and explore. Portraits don’t have to be painful. Photography truly can be fun and wild and free. Kids bring the magic, I just capture them doing their thing.

This is my absolute favorite way to do children’s photography. Let the kids be kids.
Luckily, we do have a magical time of year in Anchorage when we have this light available. It’s usually September/fall. The sun set is early enough that we have golden light right before bedtime, and often, we get some beautiful sunny (albeit cold/crips!) days to send us into winter.
But also – I travel 🙂

Aug 22 2016 Baby Malia // Anchorage Newborn Photographer
I have been loving doing so much newborn photography lately! I’ve been super fortunate to find some willing mama’s to bring their babes in to let me practice a few new wrap techniques and poses – and also – just find my groove.
Photographing babies in the studio is definitely a longer session – but it also duals as leg day, because i basically am squatting for 2 hours! So that’s a bonus!
This little lady was so, so, so adorable! She was also a fantastic model. She was not in love with my posing her – which made it such a great shoot for me to really dial in my inner baby whisperer.
I photographed baby Malia at The Studio, in downtown Anchorage, Ak – where I do some of my shoots (I also have a home studio in South Anchorage – which is great for all my clients on that side of town) – and mom and dad brought her all the way in from Wasilla! I was so grateful they were willing to drive in with a brand new babe – but I think we got some lovely images that they will cherish for a lifetime!
I especially love that I caught her sweet little yawn! Those little moment, yawns, smiles, even cries – are always just a cherry on top of a great baby session!

Aug 01 2016 Family Photography in Anchorage, Ak
When I was growing up we always hated having to go out in the yard and letting my mom take our pictures. And to be fair – the pictures were always terrible.
BUT – they are a fantastic memories – even if they are blurry, underexposed, and half of us are rolling our eyes. The images definitely captured the reality of the moment – and I love them for that!
Fast forward to 2016. I have met with so many families who don’t have any lasting photographs together! So whenever a family contacts me about photographing them, I’m so excited!
This absolutely beautiful family incorporated 4 generations into their family photography session!
With little ones, it can be so much easier to photograph close to home. Anchorage is such a lovely city – its easy to find a place that is not only scenic, but also where kids a comfortable to play and be themselves.

Jul 06 2016 Baby Darby // Anchorage Alaska Newborn Photography
I was recently able to attend a phenomenal workshop on newborn photography with the lovely Bianca Hubble, from Atlanta, Georgia. She is such a master photographer! I learned some wonderful tips and tricks for polishing up my posing and workflow and was SO excited to practice that I did a little model call for some fresh little babes to practice with!
Little miss Darby Su was such a delight! I got to practice moving through several poses and props, and also, get a squishy baby fix!
Also – she didn’t pee on me. So there is that! I mean, don’t get me wrong – it happens. Almost every time… so honestly, I think I notice it more now when I DON’T get peed on!
My kids think I’m totally crazy – “mom – why would you choose a job where people are actually peeing on you!?” I know – it does seem to defy logic. I mean – when you put it that way – it does sound a little crazy… but then I just remind them that they peed on me too when they were babies, and I still love them – so – it’s ok. For babies. Only for babies. And now I’m off to add a clause to my session contract that includes immediate termination of any sessions where someone who is not a baby pees on me… oye ve… never thought of that one before!

Isn’t her little outfit adorable!? She showed up in that and I couldn’t resist getting a few pictures! SO cute!

Jun 19 2016 Baby Max // Newborn Photography
Max, my newest nephew, was an April 1st baby. I am curious to see how that plays out in his life. I mean, he’s going to have to have a sense of humor I think.
He is one of the chillest babies I’ve ever met. I’m not quite sure how my sister got such awesome and easy babes (totally not fair!) I don’t think I heard him cry the entire week that I was visiting them in Seattle. That’s not even an exaggeration. He maybe whimpered or made a few squawks when he was hungry – but that’s it. He’s one of those babies that tricks you into having more babies because you think they are so great and easy! Then you get a “spirited” child, like my youngest and think – oh wow – how are we going to survive the next 18 years?
But I digress… My fingers are crossed that Max stays this sweet and mellow his whole life!

Jun 08 2016 baby Lucas // Anchorage Newborn Photography
I always have massive love and respect for mom that have giant babes. Little Lucas was a 10 pounder. Yeah – think about that moms…
But, big babes are super duper squishy babes, and this little cutie has rolls for days. His big brother was also in the 10 pound range, so you gotta give his mom some major credit! I was so honored to photograph this sweet family again – I always love capturing siblings that I have photographed as babies! It’s so much fun to see them grow!
Big brother was pretty in love with his (not so little) bro – super sweet and gentle with him – for a 3 year old, I was more than impressed with how great he did.
And once he got settled in baby Lucas also was amazing! He slept like a chunky happy little babe. Hopefully, for mom and dad’s sake, he sleeps during the night too…

May 18 2016 Baby Gabe // Anchorage newborn photography
Oh sweet babe! Little Gabe came to me in his first week of life and he was a dream! He was so calm and sleepy – and even when he was awake he was happy to just be wrapped and snuggled in the furs that his dad brought.
There is something about fur and babies – I swear – it’s the perfect combination of softness… I love photographing little ones against fur! And this fur was extra special. Dad is a hunter and these are gorgeous wolf pelts that he was so proud of. I have a feeling little Gabe will be following in dad’s hunting footsteps!
I shot this session a few months ago, right before my rebrand – and completely forgot how much i wanted to blog these images. So don’t mind the old watermark – they were already prepped to go online!
But he is just the squishiest, perfect little babe!

It just wouldn’t be a session of mine if there weren’t some baby feet. My obsession…

I LOVE that we caught a tandem smile. These are always just pure luck – but oh so beautiful!

May 17 2016 A sunny day in Seattle // Family Photographer
I always love getting the opportunity to catch up with clients that have left Alaska. I am so often in Seattle, I mean, Anchorage is basically a suburb of Seattle… so I love that I can pop down for a quick session to take advantage of the gorgeous spring!
The weather could not have worked out better for this session. Obviously the Seattle rains can be unpredictable, and a bit of a gamble for an outdoor cake smash – but all worked out perfectly and we had a gorgeous spring day – full of sun!
I loved how sweet the girls were with the cake – sharing and just happy to be having cake! Who doesn’t love cake?
It was an absolutely perfect shoot from start to finish! I’m ready to head back!
